The 2007–08 season will be well remembered for the Motagua fans, after having achieved their first international trophy in the Copa Interclubes UNCAF 2007; the team also became the league's runner-up in the Apertura tournament being beaten by C.D. Marathón. They were also the only team capable of beating C.D. Victoria, not only once, but twice. In the Clausura tournament they reached the Semifinals.[1] In addition to playing the Honduran league and the Copa Interclubes they also competed in the last CONCACAF Champions' Cup dispute.

After having achieve the silver medal in the Apertura tournament, Motagua were looking to improve its previous campaign for the second half of the season. However they managed only to reach the semifinals. The team had to play some of their home games at Estadio Marcelo Tinoco in Danlí due to major repairs to the Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino for the 2010 World Cup qualification.
